Data Attribution

Licence and attribution requirements for datasets available through the QuickCategory API.

QuickCategory aggregates datasets from a variety of sources. Many of these are published under open licences that require attribution when data is displayed or published. This page lists the attribution requirements for datasets currently in the catalogue.

Attribution requirements for each dataset are also returned programmatically via the /v1/datasets API endpoint in the attribution field of each dataset object.

Attribution requirements by dataset

Specific attribution requirements will be listed here as datasets are added to the catalogue. Until then, please check the attribution field in the API response for any dataset you use.

As a general rule:

  • OGL (Open Government Licence) data requires the statement: “Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.” with a link to nationalarchives.gov.uk/doc/open-government-licence/.
  • OS data requires the Ordnance Survey copyright notice as specified in the relevant licence.
  • Other open licences (Creative Commons, etc.) require attribution as specified by the licence terms.
